Intelect was founded in 1997, it’s founders (all experienced engineers), aimed to provide clients with a service that is of high and exacting standards with consistent performance and attention to detail.
This can only be provided by highly-skilled and knowledgeable professionals, which you will find at Intelect, now one of the largest independent engineering contractors in the North East.
Intelect currently has three bases in Teesside, Humberside and Leicestershire, where they provide engineering services to some of the leading operators in the food processing, utilities, renewables and pharmaceuticals sectors.
They continue to be a market leader in the industry, and offer unrivaled levels of customer service with over 25 years of experience.
1997
Intelect was born
Intelect was incorporated by its four founding directors, all of whom were engineers. The company's first customer was Nestle, Terry’s of York.
1998
Our apprenticeship programme was launched
Just one year into business, Intelect's directors, all of whom were time-served apprentices, took on their first two apprentices, marking the launch of our award-winning programme. One of our first apprentices still works for us today.
1999
We had our first relocation
Following a successful first two years, we quickly outgrew our first premises and relocated in order to open our panel manufacture facility and allow for further growth.
2002
We added pipework to our list of services
Expansion forced another move for the business, seeing us relocate to a bigger facility. This allowed us to open a dedicated pipework division, growing our service offering further..
2005
Mechanical design, fabrication and installation capabilities were launched.
Growth and expansion continued for the business, seeing our team increase rapidly, resulting in us adding mechanical capabilities to our list of services. This meant we were now able to provide our customers with a total turnkey solution.
2008
We acquired a three acre site in Middlesbrough
In order to equip us for future expansion, we purchased a large plot of land from the council and self built our own state-of-the-art premises.
2009
First two buildings completed
In 2009, we simultaneously opened Stephenson House and Whitworth House on our new site after a year of construction.
2011
Intelect's Grimsby branch opens
Following increased demand in the Humber region, the directors of Intelect decided to open a new business in Grimsby, in order to appeal to a growing customer base in the area.
2012
Edison House opens
As demand for bespoke control panels and electrical installations increased, a third building was opened at our Middlesbrough site, Edison House. This became the home of our new control panel assembly building.
2013
Intelect's Leicester branch opens
As demand for our services ventured into the Midlands, the decision was made to open a dedicated branch to service a growing number of clients. In 2013, Faraday House opened.
2016
Intelect Mechanical opens Armstrong House
As the demand for total turnkey solutions increased, further manufacturing space was required to support our growing mechanical services. Armstrong House was opened on our Middlesbrough site in 2016, doubling our manufacturing space and bringing the total number of buildings on the site up to four.
2017
Grimsby relocates to 24,000 sq. ft. premises
Success continued for our Grimsby branch, with a growing customer base meaning great manufacturing space was required. The business subsequently obtained a 24,000 sq. ft. premises on The Omega Business Park in Grimsby.
2019
We became an award-winning business
2019 was the year for awards, with us receiving a total of six awards for our business operations and apprenticeship programme. The most notable was the national ECITB SME Employer Award, and the North East Business Awards Apprenticeship, Training and Skills Award, among others - visit our Recognition & Awards page for more information.
2020
The year of resilience
2020 was a year like no other. Despite the impact of the pandemic, we remained resilient and determined, being granted Key Worker status to enable us to continue providing vital service support to the food and beverage manufacturing and utilities industries. We were also crowned Manufacturer of the Year at the North East Business Awards.
2022
We celebrated our 25th year of business
2022 marked our 25th year as a business. It was a great chance for everyone to reflect on just how far the business had come in the last quarter of a century, and the future looks even brighter as we marked the occasion with a record intake of apprentices. We were also named in the Apprenticeships Top 50 SMEs, ranking 17th in England for our programme.
2023
We celebrated 25 years of apprenticeships
In 2023, we were delighted to celebrate 25 years of our award-winning apprenticeship programme. Launched in 1998 just a year after the business started, our programme has grown substantially and has seen over 150 local people successfully pass through our doors, enabling them to access a secure career path into the engineering industry.
