With apprentices deployed within companies throughout the North East, the leading training provider to the building services industry, JTL has over two decades experience providing the region’s employers with high quality apprentice electricians and plumbers.

Middlesbrough based Intelect UK Ltd has just welcomed three new JTL apprentices to join its 130 strong workforce; two electrical apprentices Jordan Coleman and Luke Tester and heating & ventilation apprentice Daniel Seaman.

Intelect’s Managing Director Fran Cormican said: “We recruited our first JTL apprentice in 1998; we now employ 20 apprentices and our policy means we have a home grown qualified team who are fully versed in the way we do business. We need people to be highly skilled, able to diversify and build up a superb reputation for getting the job done and that’s why we keep winning repeat business, again and again.”

One of the North’s fastest growing mechanical and electrical engineering firms, Intelect UK Ltd carries out a diverse range of work across the sector. Being much more than a traditional electrical and mechanical contracting company, Intelect offer a ‘turn-key’ engineering solution including electrical installations, instrumentation services, control panel design and build and a full suite of mechanical engineering services from pipework installations through to plant relocations. The companies diverse and specialist customer base includes the food & drink manufacturing industry, water treatment plants, heavy metal industries and petrochemical plants.

“To enable us to service these specialist sectors we need a competent skills base that can only start at apprentice level. This is a great industry with career progression for those that aspire to it. I am so confident about it that I was delighted that my son Ryan decided to pursue an electrical apprenticeship” Fran explained.

Intelect’s Company Secretary John Thompson said: “Even after apprenticeships, the company encourages staff to go onto higher qualifications such as engineering HNCs. We are in the business of ‘train to retain’. All of our directors are ex-apprentices and we can boast contract engineers, project managers and supervisors who started here as apprentices.”

Thousands of young people want to join the building services industry every year and only those who pass JTL’s rigorous assessment process are included on an approved applicants list which is then circulated to employers to choose who is interviewed and recruited.

JTL receives government funding to cover all college and on-site assessment costs, mentoring and examination fees for 16 to 24 year olds beginning Advanced Apprenticeships in electrical, plumbing, engineering maintenance and heating & ventilating trades.
