Intelect Mechanical Celebrates 20 Years Of Success And Growth
Intelect Mechanical is proud to mark a major milestone as the company celebrates its 20th anniversary. From humble beginnings to becoming an established name in the industry, the company reflects on two decades of hard work, growth, and success.
Founded on 5th April 2005, Intelect Mechanical was built on the determination and expertise of its directors, Kevan Thomas and Steve Gent. The pair, who previously worked together at Coverdales, moved to join Fran Cormican and fellow directors under the Intelect brand, laying the foundations of the business alongside Graham Rogers, Peter Caldwell, and Kevan’s father, Ken.
Operating out of a shared rental unit on Walton Road, they started with nothing, relying on sheer dedication and skill to build what is now a thriving company. Remarkably, three of the original five team members remain a part of the Intelect Mechanical family today, a testament to the company’s strong values and commitment to its workforce.
Over the years, the company has seen steady growth, and after expanding out of the Walton Road unit, they joined Intelect UK in relocating to a larger facility on Riverside Park in Middlesbrough. This site currently has four state-of-the-art Intelect buildings, two of which are owned by Intelect Mechanical.
In the last two decades, Intelect Mechanical has continuously expanded, now boasting a team of 23 skilled professionals. As they mark this momentous milestone, the company has also made their next commitments to the future, investing a significant amount into a new fibre laser cutter, with a rotary indexing head, enabling precision cutting of steel sections.
This new technology will provide greater efficiencies, improved speed of part production, and increased ranges of material thickness and sections. Further investment has also been made in the latest generation 3D scanning machines and software, opening up new markets for the business.

As well as investing in new technology, Intelect Mechanical has always been dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering careers within the engineering industry. The company’s first-ever apprentice, Dave Eason, was the sixth person to join the team in 2005, and he remains an integral part of the business today as a member of the management team.
Currently, the company employs four apprentices, while five former apprentices have since advanced into key roles within the business. This strong commitment to workforce development ensures a continuous pipeline of skilled professionals, securing the company’s future success.
In addition to their employees expanding over the years, the same can also be said for their customer base, with the company building long-standing relationships with major blue-chip clients in the food and beverage manufacturing industry.
Intelect Mechanical was initially established with KP Snacks as its primary customer, relying on this partnership to initially grow the business. Through dedication and a commitment to high standards, its customer base expanded organically during the last two decades, now adding other major brands such as Nestlé and Tetley to a long list.
These strong client relationships reflect with numerous customer project managers requesting the company’s assistance when they move between companies. This shows the trust and confidence that industry leaders have in Intelect Mechanical’s expertise and service.
As Intelect Mechanical celebrates 20 successful years, the company remains focused on continuous growth, innovation, and providing top-quality mechanical engineering solutions. With a strong team, cutting-edge technology, and a commitment to excellence, the future looks bright.
