Intelect’s Maddie Williams Crowned Hartlepool College Apprentice of the Year 2025

Intelect is proud to announce that Maddie Williams, a recently qualified Health & Safety apprentice, has been awarded Apprentice of the Year at the Hartlepool College Celebration of Achievement 2025.

Maddie’s achievement places her among the very best at the college. Being shortlisted alone put her in the top 1% of Hartlepool College’s 6,500 students, and she ultimately secured the top award out of more than 1,200 apprentices across all disciplines.

During her apprenticeship with electrical and mechanical engineering company, Intelect, Maddie consistently demonstrated exceptional skill, commitment, and professionalism. She successfully completed her Health & Safety apprenticeship with triple distinctions, reflecting her dedication to excellence and her passion for creating safe, compliant working environments.

Since qualifying, Maddie has already begun giving back to the next generation of apprentices, returning to Hartlepool College to support current learners on the same apprenticeship. Her drive to help others succeed embodies the values Intelect holds as an organisation, and the award is testimony to her dedication over the last two years.

Intelect’s Business Operations Manager, Lily Brothwood helps to oversee the company’s award-winning apprenticeship programme, she said: “We are incredibly proud of Maddie and all she has achieved. This award is a testament not only to her hard work and talent, but also to the positive impact she has had within our organisation too, going above and beyond for colleagues and clients alike.

“Maddie represents everything an apprenticeship should stand for, and is a great role model for those who are interested in a career in Health & Safety, or the engineering sector as a whole. We look forward to continuing to support her with her learning in this field.”

Maddie was nominated for the award by her tutor, James Down, known as Cliff, with him stating that she was one of the apprentices he is most proud of in recent years. Cliff said, “Maddie entered her apprenticeship with an attitude which was exemplary, and her confidence grew massively over the two years.

“She was always enquiring how she could get better, and it was through these interactions that I could see her determination to do well – even going as far as taking flash cards on holiday to ensure she kept up with her learning!”

Maddie’s success highlights the strength of Intelect’s partnership with Hartlepool College, and the high calibre of apprentices who regularly join their team. The company has supported over 150 apprentices through their learning since 1998, and applications for their next intake will open in 2026.
