Meet The Apprentice – Rhys Edwards

 

Up next in our “Meet The Apprentice” series, we spoke with Rhys Edwards. He joined Intelect after completing his A-Levels, to become a Mechanical Design Apprentice within our company.

 

Here is what he had to say:

 

What department do you work in?

“I’m based in the CAD department, where I work with the mechanical design team as a design apprentice.”

 

What education route did you follow before securing your apprenticeship?

“Before getting my apprenticeship, I attended Nunthorpe Sixth Form, where I completed A-Levels in Maths, Product Design, and Physics.”

 

Was an apprenticeship always your ambition?

“Yes, I’ve always preferred training on the job rather than spending another 4 years in a classroom – it was a no-brainer!”

 

What do you like to do away from work?

“I like to socialise with my friends and go on walks. On the weekends, I also like to fix my car.”

 

What is your favourite part of the job?

“My favourite part of the job would be creating and designing something that is put into use and supports manufacturing lines.”

 

Do you have any goals for the future?

“My goal is to eventually complete a mechanical engineering degree, and after that hopefully go on to do my masters.”

 

What made you choose Intelect?

“I chose Intelect as during the interview process, I thought it was a great working environment, and they’re also really supportive, providing you with any further training you may need.”

 

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others?

“Yes absolutely! I believe it’s the best way to get a degree without the debt, and you’re also getting paid for it.”
