Primary School Reading Cabin Powered by Intelect

Intelect was delighted to participate in a recent community initiative to install a much-needed reading cabin at Springwell Village Primary School, providing the electrical power to ensure heating and lighting could be installed.

The initiative, led by Intelect’s client and utilities giant, Northumbrian Water, saw a number of businesses in their supply chain collaborate together to develop the new facility.

Due to a lack of space in the existing school building, staff and governors were forced to think outside the box, or rather in it! The solution to use a portable cabin was put forward, and the project gained momentum from there.

Businesses near and far rallied together to provide the cabin, transportation, connectivity, and furniture. It’s also been estimated that approximately £1,000 worth of books and donations were kindly given to ensure the cabin was packed with new reading materials ready for its grand opening.

All those who contributed to the project were invited to a special ribbon cutting ceremony, where guests heard from head teacher, Bryony Parrish about the positive impact the cabin will have on the children at the school.

This was followed by a celebration assembly led by North East comedian and artist, Alfie Joey, who spoke to the children and guests about his career as an artist and how important reading and being creative is.

Intelect’s Contracts Manager, Kevin Willis helped to support the initiative alongside Senior Electrical Supervisor, John Henderson, who was responsible for installing the cables to help get power to the cabin.

Kevin said, “Intelect are delighted to have played a part in supporting such a fantastic community project at Springwell Village Primary School.

“We are hugely passionate about supporting the next generation of young people, and we hope that this initiative will ensure that the children continue to grow and build on their learning, thanks to increased access to invaluable resources.”
