Record Breaking Apprentice Intake For Intelect Sees National Award Success For A Second Year Running

Continued investment in their award-winning apprenticeship programme has seen Middlesbrough engineering company, Intelect recognised for a second time in the Apprenticeships Top 50 SME Employers, ranking 27th in the country.

As the only SME representing the North East in the coveted list, Intelect’s Business Operations Manager, Lily Brothwood ventured down to London for a special celebration ceremony at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster.

Intelect’s Business Operations Manager, Lily Brothwood traveled down to Westminster to collect Apprenticeships Top 50 SME Employers Award.

The award came in the same month that Intelect welcomed another record-breaking intake of apprentices, hiring a total of 13 young people across a variety of different disciplines within the company.

Improving on their 2022 intake by over 25%, the company’s long term growth plans are the driving force behind their continued investment in people and skills.

As a former apprentice himself, Intelect’s Managing Director, Fran Cormican is well aware of the benefits that a great apprenticeship can have on a person’s development, as well as the positive impact it can have on the company they’re working for too.

He said, “It’s great to see the continuing expansion of our apprenticeship programme. It’s progressing year on year, and we now have an influx of young talent stretching right through our business as a result.

“I believe it’s vitally important that as a region we continue to invest in skills for the future and the next generation. There’s some fantastic news coming from the area, and we have a strong order book for the next few years too, but it’s still very evident that Teesside is dealing with a variety of skills shortages, and apprenticeships are a great tool to combat that.”

Intelect work closely with a variety of training partners to deliver their award-winning apprenticeship programme, one of which is Middlesbrough College, who will be supporting 12 of the companies new recruits this year.

Zoe Lewis, CEO and Principal of Middlesbrough College said, “Middlesbrough College are delighted to be supporting Intelect with their biggest intake of apprenticeships yet! Our partnership has gone from strength to strength over many years, and it is a delight to see this great company continuing to invest in young people to strengthen and grow their business.

“Intelect continue to buck the national and local trend when it comes to apprenticeship recruitment and they do this, because they have seen firsthand how new energy, talent and fresh ideas can benefit their organisation.

“It is an absolute delight to work with a company who is so genuinely committed to training and development, and who also play such a crucial advocacy role across our Tees business region.

Applications to join the next intake of Intelect’s apprenticeship programme will open in June 2024, with a variety of roles on offer. Visit: www.intelectuk.com/apprenticeships for more information.
