Walney to Wear charity bike ride
On the 16th 17th and 18th August 2013, five Intelect employees embarked on a 3 day 152 mile coast 2 coast bike ride to raise over £2000 for WaterAid. WaterAid is an international non-governmental organisation focused exclusively on improving access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation in some of the world’s poorest communities. WaterAid works in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region and campaigns globally to realise our vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation. Richard Dixon, Tom Watts, Matthew Benfield, Andy Humpish and Kevin Moore embarked on a bike ride from Walney to Wear. On route ventured many challenges along with taking on Tan Hill which reaches at its peak 1,732 ft above sea level.
See what the money raised could provide:
- £12 can buy two taps for a village water point.
- £15 can give the gift of water to one person.
- £20 can buy 25 metres of pipe.
- £46 can buy a family toilet.
- £50 can buy a handpump.
- £60 can buy a rainwater collection jar
- £100 can help two people set up a soap making business.
